A Day Off Tomorrow Becomes a Workday

So I have Thursday and Friday off from my day job, and hopefully, if I can be strong, I’ll use tomorrow as a 6-8hr workday on these projects. I will definitely transition this blog over to http://www.InterestAndFear.com, I’ll definitely get the Twitter accounts linked up, and I’ll definitely get another article at WebMarketingGeek up… After that everything will be gravy.

Luckily I’m absolutely broke at this point, so it’s easier to spend time working on this stuff. The weather is nice at least, so I can spend some time working outside. I really do need a desktop though – as useful as my netbook is, it’s hard to multitask with such a small screen, limited power, and no mouse. I think I may look into an inexpensive dual-monitor setup next week when I get paid.

Adsense Running on WMG

First Adsense ad is now showing at WebMarketingGeek.com – pretty excited about this, as I see it as a little step with a big future. It will be a bit before they tailor the ad to the site, and even after that period I may need more content before much happens.

I did create a short/trashy article this morning with “make-money-with-internet-marketing” in the URL – it’s really just a test, to see how many hits that one article gets compared with the site as a whole.

I have the next two days off, and nothing planned so I should get a decent amount of work done – two or three more articles, and finally migrate this site over to it’s own domain. Heck, I may even begin work on one of those other domain’s I purchased.

WebMarketingGeek.com Google Adsense Approved!

Pretty excited about this – even though I know that it doesn’t take much to be approved for Adsense. It does mean that some incredibly small amount of money can be made though, even if I don’t do anything but place a few ads on the site from here on out. It also means that I can put adsense links on any other site I create, and that is rather exciting.

Not feeling like messing around with Twitter/Facebook tonight, so I may just try to bang out another article.

Purchased New Domain Names Today

I purchased 6 more domain names today, which will all be used to test another method of marketing in the future. While the WMG site is being done “by hand” from start to finish, these new domains will be used to test automated tools that will build the backlinks and spin the articles. The new domains are also all related to hard-goods, so they can be used in conjunction with Amazon or other sites that sell these goods.

The domains I purchased:

  • toasterOvenReport.com
  • riceCookerReport.com
  • iceCreamMakerReport.com
  • foodDehydratorReport.com
  • slowCookerReport.com
  • juicerReviewToday.com

The idea behind these will be to get the sites up quick, pay money to generate traffic to increase their ranks on search engines, and make money from affiliates.

Haven’t done much other work this morning, aside from registering two new Twitter accounts – @InterestAndFear (for this blog) and @JoshDenault (for personal use). Hopefully I’ll get the new accounts linked with Facebook and the Blogs tonight after work.

4th of July

It’s the 4th of July and I’m home, working on both this blog and the Web Marketing Geek site. I was able to integrate WMG’s website, Twitter (@WebMarktingGeek) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Web-Marketing-Geek/170035036396583?sk=wall) which is nice. I do however need to remember that FB posts from my personal account will show up on @WebMarktingGeek as well, so I’ll need to stop posting directly to Facebook (and instead create a personal Twitter account that pushes to my FB profile). I’m not sure how I’ll integrate this site with either Twitter or Facebook just yet – and I still need to migrate over to http://www.interestandfear.com – but hopefully I’ll work it all out tomorrow before work.

First Posts / Articles Added to Web Marketing Geek

Added the first two real posts to the Web Marketing Geek site this evening. One is an introduction on choosing a niche for a site, and the second is on choosing a domain name and hosting for a site.

I re-wrote both these articles using other people’s work – why? Because there is very little new information on these subjects, and because to write my own articles would take much too long. I could pay others to write or re-write content for me, and I may just do that in the future, but for now I’m content that I can get an article posted every two days, if not every day.

My next steps are all somewhat administrative – I need to migrate this blog to it’s new host at HostGator.com, create Twitter and Facebook accounts (one for this blog and one for WebMarketingGeek), and configure WordPress plugins to integrate my websites, Twitter, and FB. Hopefully I can get all this and another article done tomorrow.

Domain Name & Hosting Purchased

While thinking about niches, and keywords, and the like – I realized that perhaps a solid idea would be create a site to help people who want to do the same thing as I do.

I started looking at keywords and identified a few that would work, and they related to exactly what I want to do (make money by running a website). So, the idea will be that I’ll create a blog-style website, detailing techniques/methods for creating such a website… get it? Interest and Fear will remain my scratch space – a place for me to write about problems I run into, successes I have, and as noted before, a form of pressure to stay motivated.

So – the new site’s domain? WebMarketingGeek.com.

You might say, “but you’re no such thing” – and you’d be 100% right, but hopefully by the time I’m finished I will be, or will at least be significantly closer than I am now. I needed a domain that had “marketing” and either “internet” (preferable) or “web” in it – and most are taken, or are being sold for very high prices, however this domain was available for less than $10.

Within one day I registered the domain, purchased hosting space (more on that later), and installed WordPress (more on this later as well). It was a very productive day Friday. I also wrote a sort article on purchasing a domain name and web hosting for http://www.webmarketinggeek.com – but before I post it I need an article on niches, keywords, and such – so it may be a day or two before there’s actual content posted.

As an aside, I did also purchase InterestAndFear.com because, well, godaddy.com is having a $1 domain sale, so I figured why not. This blog will most likely transfer over there within the week.
